The widespread use of sugar and its by-products, which include the use of ethanol, has made sugar futures contracts a highly profitable venture if and when you know how to play the market. Here are a few thoughts and tips on the matter.

For beginners in the commodity market, engaging in the trade of sugar futures contracts is a great way to acquire knowledge and experience in investments. The most notable of properties of this commodity market is the fact that only small margins are required and that the market rarely makes extreme moves in either direction. Thus, traders and investors can wait to make their move for more favorable conditions.

However, there have been instances when the price of sugar in the worldwide market has experienced extreme swings, thus, affecting investments in sugar futures contracts. Investors are well advised to be mindful of such wild swings, no matter that it happens rarely. Also, it will help to know that the sugar industry appears to make big moves every eleven years or so.

For normal markets, investors can buy plenty of time before making their moves especially as strategies for straddles, strangles and spreads are very abundant, indeed. The use of swing trading techniques and wave analysis during long-term formations and patterns are highly recommended.

Use such an ability and be rewarded with profits more than you can possibly earn on your day job.

Day trading – no, it’s not something that Bill Murray wished he had in Groundhog Day. It’s a style of trading on the foreign currency exchange market in which a trader completes all his trades within a single day. In other words, he may make a few dozen – or more – trades in a day with the objective of buying and selling quickly and making a profit from the fluctuations in a currency exchange rate over the course of the day.

Sound complicated? Depending on the method or system that you use to pick your trades it can be. The idea behind day trading is that currency exchange rates are subject to fluctuations over the course of the day – they go up and down depending on who’s buying, who’s selling and what rumors are floating around. In fact, day trading in the foreign currency market is probably the single segment of any type of stocks, currency or futures trading market most affected by rumors and real-time, real-world happenings. A savvy trader who is quick on his feet can roll up the profits by paying attention to what the current news is doing to the currency exchange rates.

The currency market, commonly referred to as the forex (short for Foreign Exchange), is the most liquid market in the world. The latest statistics say that daily trading on forex is in excess of $1.3 trillion U.S. dollars. That makes forex the world’s largest, most efficient market. A major part of the reason for the liquidity and volume of trade is the practice of day trading. The difference between day trading and other types of trading is in how long you hold your stocks (or in this case, your currency). In day trading, you hold nothing beyond the close of the day’s market. Think of it as a game in which the object is to keep trading cards back and forth, increasing the value of your cards – but have no cards in your hand at the end of the day.

Of course, since the currency market is a 24 hour market, there really IS no market closing – so the rules change slightly. The currency market is open from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon, with trading going on all the time, so you can pick your times to trade rather than being locked into the Stock Exchange timetable.

How You Make Money in Day Trading

People will tell you that the difference between a day trader and an investor is the length of time that each holds onto their stocks. That’s a superficial difference. The real difference is in the mindset of short-term vs. long-term and liquidity. An investor buys something that he believes will steadily increase in value, and holds onto it for the long haul. A day trader rides the minute fluctuations in the currency market minute by minute the way a surfer rides a wave. Because you’re trading in lots of 100,000, a tiny fluctuation can mean a big profit – or a huge loss.

Limiting Loss in Day Trading

One of the hardest concepts for new traders to grasp is that of limiting loss. Let’s say you make a trade for a currency that is heading down because you believe that it’s near its support point – the point where it will rebound and start heading back up. Instead, it breaks the point and keeps heading down – you’re losing money instead of making it. You have two choices – hold onto it because you KNOW it will start heading back up soon, or get rid of it and limit the amount of money you’re going to lose. In day trading, the name of the game is limiting your losses and maximizing your wins – decide ahead of time just how much you’ll allow each trade to lose before you sell it, and then STICK TO YOUR LIMIT. By the same token, decide how much profit you want to make, set a sell order for when the currency reaches that point – and sell when it hits the mark.

Know what you’re doing.

Day trading on the forex is like any other business. The people who make money are the ones who take the time to learn the market and understand the ins and outs of the trades that they make. Those who jump in feet first without learning the terms, rules and trends of the forex market are priming themselves to lose – and lose big. Remember, there’s no such thing as high profit potential without equivalent risk. Before you jump in, take a course in trading, or read read read all that you can.

Suspend rubber futures: ATMA – Yahoo! India News

Unusual volatility in natural rubber prices, despite peak production season and record imports, smacked of speculative manipulation in the commodity, the Association of Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA) said, calling for a suspension of futures trading in rubber.

“As immediate and direct fallout of heavy speculative activity in natural rubber futures trading, the physical market for rubber is being unduly affected,” Raghupati Singhania, chairman, ATMA said in a note sent to commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma and agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar.

Natural rubber prices have escalated sharply since the onset of peak rubber tapping season in October. Rubber prices, in the spot market which ruled at Rs 109 per Kg on November 1, 2009, are now hovering around Rs 140 per kg.

In the letter Singhania has argued that despite normal conditions, rubber supplies in the market are being deliberately restricted at the behest of some vested interests.

He cautioned that, “such speculative activity is likely to result in far reaching consequences for all genuine stakeholders including rubber growers, dealers as well as consumers.” ATMA's contention is that till normalcy returns to the market, rubber futures trading should be suspended. Earlier too, FMC had suspended futures trading in rubber from May 2008 to November 2008 to curb price volatility. In December 2008, natural rubber prices normalised and futures trading were restarted.

Some people don`t care about the broker they choose. However after seeing what happened with REFCO, it is important to be aware of the broker.

What do you have to analyze while choosing one?
There are several things to take into mind:

>Spread: the difference between a buying and a selling price. The most common spread is around 3 pips (0.0003 USD), brokers like this are MARKETIVA (http://www.marketiva.com/?gid=2134), CMS (if you are interested in it for individual accounts: https://ema.fxserver.com/contract/refer.do?referrer=470&offer=HJ-631162530&contractType=Individual
and for managed accounts: https://ema.fxserver.com/contract/refer.do?referrer=470&offer=ZU-610845068&contractType=Managed .

Some other brokers offer about 1.5 pips of spread. Oanda is one of them www.fxtrade.oanda.com

>Slippage, it is really important to know the slippage of a broker, and it`s impossible to know it, unless you open an account or you do a research. The slippage is a price movement after you close or open a position so the price you wanted isn`t respected. CMS doesn`t have slippage at all. Oanda has a little slippage that it is not important because of its low spread, marketiva has also little slippage. These are the brokers I use.

>Regulations: THIS IS REAL IMPORTANT. REFCO was not properly regulated. You must choose one with strong regulations by the NFA or any other respected one.

As you can see, these three are strongly regulated.

>Minimum for opening an account: in some cases this is really iimportant if you want to start with little money. Marketiva and Oanda offer you that option, you can start with as little as one dollar. Whereas, in CMS you need at least 200 U$S.

>Trading platform: eventhough you can get some free trading platforms, it is better if the broker where you are offers a nice trading platform. Personally speaking, I use some complex systems that are not included in some platforms, as ichimoku and fibonacci. The only platform that completely satisfies me is the VTtrader from CMS. Marketiva has serious lack of analysis tools. CMS has everything you may need except of some VERY advanced trading tools that I don`t like. Oanda is really awful, don`t like anything at all this platform. But it`s easy to use. Therefore, if you use other trading platform you can use oanda still, without analyzing in there.
You can always open free accounts and try these platforms and see which one best suits you. Metatrader is also a very well-known one, personally I don`t like the visualization.
